This webinar which took place on 7 April focused on Practical Pain Management in Orthopaedics.
Speakers included:
- Sue Brown, CEO of the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance (ARMA) who highlighted issues from the patient’s perspective such as support while people are waiting including the importance of good communication.
- Diarmuid Denneny, Physiotherapy Lead at Pain Management Centre, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust discussed pain management principles and self-management strategies to consider if surgery has been delayed and reflected on aspects of “myth-busting” and prehab.
- Joint Academy’s Chief Medical Officer and co-founder, Professor Leif Dahlberg (Senior professor in orthopaedics at Lund University in Sweden) along with their Medical Adviser and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Christian Anker-Hansen (from the Capio Orthopaedic clinic in Eslov, and the primary care centre in Lund, Sweden) presented the evidence base for home management of arthritis. Pain caused by osteoarthritis is episodic: Joint Academy’s digital first-line treatment of osteoarthritis is proven to reduce the severity and frequency of patient pain and can help identify those for whom surgery is the greatest priority.
