NOA Webinar: COVID Orthopaedic Recovery: National and International recruitment

Date: 16 February 2022 at 1pm

Venue: Virtual (Zoom)

Probably the biggest issue impeding orthopaedic surgery recovery is staffing. Many members of staff have left the NHS, retired early or have long term medical and/or mental health issues that limit their ability to work.

This has resulted in staffing shortages across various orthopaedic services in particular, theatre staffing. Providers need to retain staff and also want to recruit the best people for the job which sometimes means looking overseas.

This NOA webinar concentrated on national and international recruitment in the context of orthopaedic surgery recovery.

Speakers include:

  • Sue Cox, Deputy Director of Nursing- Workforce and Education from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust who explains the key drivers and benefits for progressing with international recruitment at GSTT including the support from agencies and the CapitalNurse Consortium, OSCE training, ethically recruiting, MDT and HR support, clinical engagement, pastoral support and the supernumerary period.
  • Connor Hodgetts, Superintendent Radiographer, Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust – sharing the process, successes, and challenges of overseas recruitment of radiographers during COVID at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital
  • Nikki Brockie, Deputy Chief Nurse, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust –  talking about how international recruitment is progressing across the Birmingham and Solihull ICS including the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
