ARMA’s 2023 Annual Lecture, entitled ‘Community Powered MSK’, is set to take place on Tuesday, May 16th at 6pm. The event will be virtual and feature two distinguished speakers:
- Adam Lent, Chief Executive of New Local
- Laura Finucane, Consultant Physiotherapist and Clinical Director of Sussex MSK Partnership.
With a growing number of people suffering from long-term MSK conditions, there is increasing pressure on services and lengthy backlogs, leading many to believe that our current models are unsustainable. The event will focus on whether a more community-centred approach could address the need for prevention, support for self-management, and de-medicalization of our approach to MSK health. Furthermore, the speakers will discuss whether this approach could be the answer to tackling the ever-increasing demand, and whether it could improve patient access, outcomes, and experiences.
Last year, New Local published a report titled “A Community Powered NHS,” which proposed a radical shift towards a healthcare system focused on preventing illness as much as treating it. The report called for a collaborative approach with communities as equal partners in the design and delivery of healthcare. Adam Lent will discuss the principles of this new paradigm and the potential benefits, while Laura Finucane will respond from the perspective of local MSK services.
